The old fields lie quiet,
and the crows circle like shadows
over the rusted fence posts.
But I will not fear.
For He has said,
“Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20).
The storms come sudden in this land,
the thunder cracking across the ridges,
the hollers filling with dark water.
Still I lift my voice,
for “He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still” (Psalm 107:29).
