The storms come sudden in this land,
\nthe thunder cracking across the ridges,
\nthe hollers filling with dark water.
\nStill I lift my voice,
\nfor \u201cHe maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still\u201d (Psalm 107:29).

\nMy heart has been heavy with sorrow,
\nand the nights are long and lonesome.
\nI\u2019ve walked through the graveyard trails,
\nwhere the cedars whisper like mourners.
\nYet I remember the promise:
\n\u201cThe souls of the righteous are in the hand of God,
\nand there shall no torment touch them\u201d (Wisdom of Solomon 3:1).<\/p>\n
The ground beneath me is clay and stone,
\nbut the Rock I stand upon is greater.
\nI lean upon Him as the prophet said:
\n\u201cThou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee\u201d (Isaiah 26:3).<\/p>\n
I do not ask for riches,
\nI do not ask for the barns to be full,
\nor the fields to yield without sweat.
\nI ask only for His nearness,
\nfor His hand to guide me in the dark valley,
\nfor the sound of His voice when my breath grows thin.<\/p>\n
And I will say with the old saints before me,
\n“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15).
\nFor He is the keeper of my soul,
\nthe light that does not fail,
\nthe Lord who walks the dusty roads beside me,
